The Iowa City VA Health Care System moved a number of specialty services into a new community clinic in downtown Iowa City. The VA said it will improve patients’ access to care and it will be a one-stop shop for services.

On Friday, VA staff and local officials celebrated the grand opening of the facility. The clinic is located at the old federal post office. The VA said that makes it a win-win. Since the building was already government owned, it made the move cheaper.

“Our veterans will benefit from this space. This is a tremendous opportunity for us to build upon the services that we were already providing at the Iowa City VA by providing additional space and equipment and technology,” Judy Johnson-Mekota, the Iowa City VA director, said.
